Only thing is it doesn't seem like anyone has anything on here in sysex format?
Like, nobody uses floppies anymore guys!
Does anyone have the original files (or others for that matter) in sysex format?
Also,
Going through the synth and the manual, it seems pretty easy to send a sysex dump, but what are the procedures for the instrument to RECEIVE the dump?
Forgive me. I haven't even really started wrapping my head around this synth yet.

Hi Rocinante01,

Great to see you on the site. Things have been a bit quiet here lately due to my workload but will be ramping up again soon.

I've upgraded your membership so you can now download the high resolutions WSA1 Manuals and you have access to the Technical Guide as well.

I can't help with your query yet, sysex is something I intend to look into in more detail later in the year as I have a system waiting to be set up here at home. I hope someone else can help you with more detail or that the manuals help!

Best wishes,
Mike

Hi Rocinante01,

Did you get anywhere with Sysex?

You know that the factory disk is here to download right? Maybe you should reconsider floppies. We have about 170 WSA1 owners here but almost 7000 Members of the whole group of websites. A vast number of us use floppies every day and find them extremely reliable.

Interested in the Sysex though. If we can all gather the required info between us I'll look into getting software written to send and receive systex info to and from the WSA1 easily.

Cheers,
Mike

Re: INFO ON SYS-EX DUMPS

Hello, I hope you don't mind me bringing up an old thread. I purchased a USB floppy drive and am not having luck using it to transfer sounds between the WSA1 and computer. I have tried with both PC and Mac, neither seems able to read the WSA1-formatted disk. Likewise, when a disk is formatted on the Mac, the WSA1 says the sound is created for a different product and wipes out the User banks.

On a positive note, SYSEX transfers between the WSA1 and Mac work very well.

It sounds as though your drive needs to be serviced. You could try a head cleaner. I had to run a head cleaner about 20 times on my WSA1 when I first got it.
Try some midi files. You could try a commercial midi disk because that might help you to tell whether the WSA1 drive or the USB drive heads are out of alignment.

Re: INFO ON SYS-EX DUMPS

Thanks! I'll try that! The WSA1 can write to the disk and read back from it, it just can't read from the disk created by my Mac and my Mac can't read from the disk created by the WSA1. I'll also try a new pre-formatted disk and will report back if that helps.

Re: INFO ON SYS-EX DUMPS

The pre-formatted disk is a good idea.

I've struggled to get reliable USB floppy drives. For that reason I have bought several Sony USB drives off Ebay, they seem to be the best. I'm not saying it's the USB drive but in my experience, it always has been that rather than the keyboard. I have about 12 different Technics keyboards including two WSA1s and all the keyboard drives are reliable.

I upgraded your membership.

Sounds crazy but try formatting a disk several times in the WSA1 and then writing to it. That has worked for me sometimes.

My son is the Mac expert I'll also see if he has ideas, we had some problem with Mac and USB drives before I seem to remember.

Thank you. That is very good information. I can still return the drive if it turns out to be the issue. I have used Technics turntables for decades and my experience has always been that Technics' manufacturing is ultra reliable.

I always get the Sony USB MPF82E because they support 720k as well as 1.44mb. They also support Macs.

Re: INFO ON SYS-EX DUMPS

Which gave me another thought - you can try both 720 and 1.44 formatting (but your USB drive probably doesn't support 720k)
